You may have heard the term before but what exactly is a title loan? If you find yourself needing a small amount of money but don't have any means to get it you may consider a title loan. Basically there are companies that will lend you cash if you sign over the title of a vehicle you own as collateral until the loan is paid back. These loans are known as title loans, car title loans or even a pink slip loan.
Title loan companies do not require a credit check so you won't be turned down because of a low credit score. If you own a vehicle, and it doesn't matter what type of vehicle you want to use for your loan, you are automatically qualified as long as you have the title to it.
It doesn't take long to get a title loan. You must bring the actual title with you to the title loan company with proper identification. These loans carry a higher interest rate and keep in mind, if you do not repay the loan you are at risk of losing the vehicle you used for your collateral.
Title loans are not available in every state so check to see if they are available where you live. If you see them listed online or in a local phone directory then chances are they are legal in your state. You must have a job or have one on the horizon as they do require you to have the ability to pay back the loan. You can use your automobile for the loan as well as your motorcycle, boat or all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Just remember that if you do not pay the loan as arranged you have the possibility of losing possession of your vehicle.
When you go for a title loan you must own the vehicle free and clear of any other debt. The company will use the standard Kelly Blue book to determine the value of the vehicle. You also must make sure that you have current insurance on it. You may be able to borrow up to 50 percent depending on the make, model and condition of the vehicle.
When considering taking out a title loan make sure that you have exhausted all other avenues before signing away your car, boat or ATV. If you must use a title loan make sure you can pay it back.
